Artists Reinterpret Their Childhood Works

In Homeroom, a new group show at San Diego’s Subtext Gallery guest curated by Christina Conway, 20 emerging artists have reinterpreted a piece of art that they created back when they were kids in their current style. From Tran Nguyen’s updated take on her sixth grade drawing of an elf to Audrey Kawasaki’s R-rated version of a marker-scrawled princess, it’s fascinating to see how the wild imagination found in the original works collides with the artists’ more sophisticated styles today. Click through for a quick preview of the exhibition, and if you’re in the area, head to Subtext Gallery before December 11 to check it out in person.
