Today at Flavorpill, we were confused by some of the things that people wanted for Christmas back in the ’70s — like Budweiser pajamas and “Big Ears” headphones. We wondered why our college didn’t offer an introductory class in the great literature of cats. We read North African tyrant General Aladeen’s official statement regarding the death of Kim Jong Il. We thoroughly enjoyed Canonball’s roundup of the 20 best 2011 albums that happened to be made by women. We discovered that even Meryl Streep gets annoyed by the way Hollywood works after watching an interesting clip from last night’s 60 Minutes interview. We met the world’s fattest inflatable man. We got our first look at the action-comedy duo of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum on the 21 Jump Street poster. We welcomed the second installment of Shit Girls Say. We thought it was a little early for the fake Coachella posters to start showing up. We were impressed by this English family’s Lego Dalek with a Santa beard. We were curious as to why the trailer for Prometheus needed its own trailer. And finally, we listened to some recordings from REM’s final ever performances, two tracks which the band sent out last week as a little gift to their fans.
