Bizarre Photos of Shrink-Wrapped Couples

19

Japanese artist Photographer Hal has stuffed club kids into bathtubs and other cramped spaces in his work before, but this time he’s chosen to shrink-wrap them like living dolls squirming under plastic. With some nude, and some dressed in candy-colored attire, Hal covers his models with a plastic sheeting that he vacuums the air from in order to distort their features and bond them together. It only takes a few seconds for him to snap several images before releasing them, and the results are humorous and somewhat grotesque. More plastic-covered people await you past the break.

Is it just bizarre because they’re Japanese?
If this was done by someone white, it would be called art.

Sam, I’d say it’s both bizarre and art.

Lol, seriously? It is definitely bizarre. Stop trying to bring racism into everything ever.

Who is surprised these people are Asian?

How are they meant to breath?!

Surely it would be just as bizarre, interesting, clever, whatever, regardless of the nationality, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, dietary habits, hobbies or star signs of the people taking part???!

Forget the racial nonsense and try to look further into cultural signs, in this case unique Japanese aesthetic sensibiliry (see all Japanese art) combined with a Japanese undercurrent of erotic sado-masochism (see their films, porn and comic books).

The trouble with art like this is that it doesn’t last. How about shrink-wrapped and freeze dried? That way it’d be around for posterity.

Actually, there are only 8 pics shown here. My friend Kate was shrink wrapped and photographed too and she’s from NJ.

JT posted an astute, informed comment. I do have to add that it would be difficult to ascertain how fresh these items are in the shrink-wrap.

not sure what the big deal is. the fetish commubnity has had plastic/latex vacum beds for years. But someone in them, attack the vacum which sucks all the air out, and the people are stuck between thetwo layers of latex/

Personally, I like my couples shrink-wrapped. They stay fresher that way.

Usually art students move on to shrink wrapping right after Saran wrap (lie that rather generic photo posted by martin above). Mostart students and untalented photogs use it as an excuse to get people naked, but a few create some fun photos instead…..when I saw the photo in my flavorpill email update, I thought, “oh is it a joke site full of plastic covered people from senior photography exhibits. This will be great, but alas, it’s a serious review of a book full of an overused gimmick”

mmm. boil-in bags. taste like miso.

like fast food, its aesthetic — cheap and fast — is disposable. so too is any value it has outside of the millisecond it takes to grasp the insipid, pandering quality.

bfd.

Which one should I chose to purchase and eat from the supermarket?

I think its super interesting. Way to think outside of the box..
and in the bag.

This is how your product comes when you are the %1 and you can afford the freshest meat.
