An Update on the ‘Friday Night Lights’ Movie

Back in August, we were kind of excited when Peter Berg confirmed that he had plans to bring Friday Night Lights back to the big screen. Then we watched the show’s series finale, and wondered what exactly a new film would be about — was there really more story there? Now we’ve got a better idea of what’s in store — provided that everyone (specifically Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton) can find enough time in their schedules to make it work, and Berg’s Battleship doesn’t tank so hard that it kills his credibility or perform so well that it demands a quickie sequel.

“Jason Katims, who was our super talented show-runner, is about done with the script,” Berg recently told MTV. “He has come up with a really great storyline that parallels what happened to Mike Leach, one of my heroes, a coach at Texas Tech who was unjustly fired and unjustly accused of mistreating a player with a concussion, which was proven to not have been the case… It would be critical that we get Kyle and Connie [onboard for the film] — we anchored the show around them — and then bring in Riggins, Tyra, Lyla and all other characters as we could get them. But the idea is to really revolve it around the coach.”

Interesting. What do you think of this news? Were you satisfied with the way things wrapped up in the series finale, or do you think that a film spin-off sounds like a great idea? [via Slashfilm]
