Yesterday, celebrated author and poet Maya Angelou started off “CBS This Morning’s” new series “Note To Self” with a beautiful missive meant for her 15-year-old self (not to mention other teenagers and post-teenagers everywhere). The 83-year-old author was filled with sage advice, but one of our favorite suggestions was to “Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin — find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less.” Truer words were never spoken — but what else would you expect from Maya Angelou? Click through to watch the video, and let us know what you’d tell your own wayward teenage self in the comments.
