When Danish architect Jørn Utzon was awarded the Pritzker Prize back in 2003, the selection committee had the following to say about his 1957 design for the Sydney Opera House, a project that was finally completed in 1973: “It is one of the great iconic buildings of the 20th century, an image of great beauty that has become known throughout the world — a symbol for not only a city, but a whole country and continent.” It’s also the latest addition to LEGO’s ongoing Architecture Series, joining the ranks of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, as well as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and SOM’s Burj Khalifa.
