Best Coast’s endless journey of monetization chugs on with Bethany Cosentino’s announcement, via Twitter, that she’s launching a clothing line for Urban Outfitters. The collection will debut in May, and while no other details have been revealed yet, the shot at left appears to be a preview.
Sadly, this may not have been the ideal moment for Cosentino to rhapsodize over her collaboration with the fauxhemian brand. Not only did today bring the news that the Navajo Nation has filed a lawsuit against Urban over their controversial “Navajo Hipster Panty,” but they’ve also angered the Irish community over such apparently St. Patrick’s Day-themed merchandise as an “Irish Drunk” tank top and an “Irish Yoga” cap that features a dude on all fours puking.
Of course, Cosentino isn’t the first indie rocker to design for Urban. Kim Gordon collaborated with the company on a line a few years ago, and came out of it with her reputation intact. Then again, she’s Kim Gordon. [via Pitchfork]
