We can never resist photos of pop-culture icons from before they were famous — especially the ones who have created flashy public personae. So we had a great time paging through a series of pictures photographer Malgorzata Saniewska took of Lady Gaga back in 2005, when she was still best known as Stefani Germanotta and the women worked together at a restaurant in the West Village. Shot at Gaga’s parents’ apartment on the Upper East Side, they show a more vulnerable side of the pop star we know, although the singer already had a knack for striking a pose.
