We all know you’re tired of the same of cliché — this poem/picture/song simply bursts from the page! But in Erika Iris’s work, which we recently spotted over at Colossal, it’s quite literally the case. Iris creates gorgeous collages by meticulously cutting out and reorganizing the staffs, notes, and other notations from sheet music, building figures that bloom out from the music with lives of their own. The effect is, in a way, like listening to music — if you allow it to take shape in your mind, it can become something else entirely. Iris doesn’t limit herself to musical notation, however — she builds portraits from old cassette tapes and film as well.
