The New ‘Blade Runner’ Movie Will Have a Female Protagonist

As anyone who has watched his earlier films like Alien or Thelma and Louise can attest, Ridley Scott is a director who knows what to do with a badass leading lady. That’s why we were excited to hear that in his recent meetings on the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, it was decided that relaunched franchise will definitely feature a female protagonist. (Sorry, Harrison Ford. Apparently those rumors about the return of Rick Deckard were false.)

“I’m used to very strong women because my mother was particularly strong, and my father was away all the time,” Scott explained in a recent interview with The Daily Beast. “My mother was a big part of bringing up three boys, so I was fully versed in the strength of a powerful woman, and accepted that as the status quo. I think there are a lot of men who feel they’re being emasculated by having the woman be in charge; I’ve never had that problem… Oddly enough, I find it quite engaging to be working with a female when I’m directing. It’s kind of interesting.” [via The Playlist]
