Daily Dose Pick: Smith Magazine
7:00 am Thursday Jul 16, 2009 by Eli Dvorkin

Smith magazine is an online community of memoirists, yarn spinners, and tall-tale tellers.

Smith was founded in 2006 as an outlet for free online storytelling. Best known for its Six-Word Memoirs, which challenge writers to pen micro-biographies, Smith also hosts ongoing group story projects and webcomics.

The latest addition is My Home Birth, a hilarious and uncensored graphic memoir written by Christen Clifford and illustrated by David Heatley.

Smith’s story projects provide revealing glimpses into the lives of others. My Ex encourages scribes to spill their guts about lost loves, while Brushes With Fame collects tales about unexpected celebrity encounters. Smith’s newest project seeks stories about next-door neighbors — the best of which will be matched with a cartoonist and transformed into a webcomic.

Explore the site, check out our favorite Six-Word Memoirs of Love & Heartbreak, read an interview with founder Larry Smith, and visit the Memoirville book blog.
