A Collection of Incredibly Gorgeous Comic Book Art

This week saw the release of Batman: Death by Design, a much-anticipated collaboration between graphic designer and author Chip Kidd and illustrator Dave Taylor that is being hailed everywhere for its gorgeous art (which as far as we’re concerned, totally makes up for the slightly weak story). Inspired by this new interpretation of a ubiquitous and oft-recreated figure, we put together a small collection of some of the most beautiful comic book art in recent memory, both covers and interior work, for your perusal. Click through to feast your eyes on a few gorgeous comics, and make sure to point us to your favorite graphic beauties in the comments.

Totally second the mentions for Mike Mignola and Dave McKean! I would also throw in one of my recent favorites, Jeremy Bastian who does "Cursed Pirate Girl." Totally intricate, mind-blowing line work!

The work of François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters should definitely be added to this list. See for example their series "Les Cités obscures" ("The Obscure Cities," published in English as "Cities of the Fantastic").

The artwork for Bill Willingham's Fables is usually always beautiful, the covers especially. Adds to the over all addictiveness of the series ;)

I'd also like to add some Dave McKean, particularly his covers for The Sandmans and the interior art for Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Serious Earth.

Great stuff on this list. Some of my favorites are Lee Bermejo's "Joker", John Cassaday's "Planetary", Craig Thompson's "Blankets", Travis Charest's "Spacegirl", Alex Toth's "Zorro", Moebius's "Arzach", Mike Mignola's "Hellboy", and any cover by Tara McPherson. (Glad James Jean made your list, he's the best.)

ever heard of the art of GRZEGORZ ROSINSKI ? he created a very popular comic in France, THORGAL, check it out, his art is amazing

I must add that much of the beauty in these Casanova books comes from the brilliant work by colorist Cris Peter.
