Lynchian Photos of Deserted Nighttime Roads

What does the image of a deserted street in the dead of night suggest to you? Is it a symbol of freedom, the empty highway lighting your way to a daring escape? Or does it make you anxious, its no-one-to-hear-you-scream isolating suggesting the opening scene of a movie that can only end in terror and gore? We see both of these possibilities in Maxence Cardon’s Comfort of Light in Darkness, a series of photos where street lights serve as a glowing oasis (but also, in our mind, ghostly apparitions) amid the desolation of midnight roads. Click through for a gallery of these Lynchian photos, which we discovered via Faith is Torment, and be sure to visit Cardon’s website for more.
