Incredible Embroidered Drawings by Izziyana Suhaimi

Embroidered art appears to be having a bit of a moment, and Singapore-based artist Izziyana Suhaimi creates some of the loveliest examples of the trend that we’ve come across yet. In her latest series, The looms in our bones, she combines pencil drawings of what she describes as “strange and awkward but attractive girls” with embroidered embellishments, resulting in eye-catching illustrations that are deliciously textured with bright pops of color.

While Suhaimi’s background in craft-based techniques runs the gamut from basic sewing to origami, she says that there’s something about embroidery — which she first employed in a school project on medical illustrations — that really draws her in. “Maybe because the medium is so basic in human civilization, and so versatile,” she explained to us over email. “Its purpose is really functional, but it has the ability to convey emotions — and most people seem to be able to connect to this medium.” Click through to find out if you’re as smitten with her work as we are.
