Soon You Will Be Able to Play a Video Game About Salman Rushdie’s Fatwa

If you know anything about Salman Rushdie (besides his dating history), you probably know that the author was the target of a fatwa requiring his execution issued by the Supreme Leader of Iran some 23 years ago, in response to his controversial novel The Satanic Verses . You may not have known that Iranian video game developers are working on a game on the subject, entitled “The Stressful Life of Salman Rushdie and Implementation of his Verdict.” Not a very catchy title, we must say, but that’s probably not the point. Initial phases of production has been completed on the game, which is being developed by the Islamic Association of Students, a government-sponsored organization that has been working on the project for three years. Little else about the game has been revealed — but we bet we know what “implementation of his verdict” means, and we don’t like it. Padma might want a copy, though. [via The Guardian ]
