If you were raised on a steady diet of vintage horror flicks like Dracula, Frankenstein, and Creature From the Black Lagoon or film noir classics such as The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon, then you’ll find plenty to enjoy in Monsters, Villains, Heroes and Victims, a 13-part series of animated gifs by a New York-based creative team known as the Saline Project. “We wanted to bring together two of our favorite things: iconic antiheroes and vintage Los Angeles noir,” director Adam Toht explained to Wired. “There’s something about this illusion of depth that seems to reference early cinema, which works well with the classic monster-movie and film-noir themes.” Click through to peep the fantastic images that they’ve created so far, which include odes to the Wolfman and the Swamp Monster, and check back in for new entries on the project’s website in the weeks leading up to Halloween.
