According to The Wrap, IFC is developing a show based on comedian Chris Gethard’s recent book A Bad Idea I’m About To Do: True Tales of Seriously Poor Judgment and Stunningly Awkward Adventure. Gethard, whose New York City public access progrgam The Chris Gethard Show is already a cult hit, will host on-air programming, create exclusive content for IFC.com, and generally become part of the family. Because this isn’t just a show deal, this is a major life change – Gethard is the first comedian to be “adopted” by the channel in their new “Adopt a Comic” program. ”When I told my parents I was being adopted by a television station, they said, ‘Why do you need to be adopted? You are 32 years old. We gave you a pretty good, easy suburban life,’” said Gethard. “They don’t get how much of an opportunity it is for me that a hip cable network wants to raise me like a human baby.” Opportunity or not, we’re pretty sure we’ll be watching — at least just to see how Gethard’s adult adoption is working out for him.
