Candy-Colored Pigeons Take Over Venice

Share:

Depending on what time of year you visit, sometimes it can feel like there are more pigeons than people strolling around the various piazzas in Venice. With the 13th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale currently underway, Berlin-based artists Julian Charriere and Julius von Bismarck decided to drum a little positive PR for the so-called rats of the sky, collaborating on a fascinating project called Some Pigeons Are More Equal Than Others that involves airbrushing the feathered creatures every hue of the rainbow. Click through for a slideshow of photos documenting the results of the harm-free makeover, which we spotted thanks to designboom, and let us know how you feel about the concept in the comments. We can’t help but think of the horses from the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz, which we obsessed over as kids, but we’re sure PETA isn’t going to be happy when it hears about this.
