New York photographer Shannon Taggart — whose work we first spotted on Beautiful/Decay — was granted access to Mambo Rose Marie Pierre’s Basement Temple in Brooklyn where she documented fascinating Vodou rituals. The Haitian religious ceremonies are led by the female priest, who opened the temple in a storefront. There, powerful spirits possess practitioners, offerings are scattered across a decorated altar, and wild bouts of singing and dancing transform the nondescript room into an otherworldly conduit.
