It’s Friday, which means another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness from around the web. This week there’s the new James Bond theme, which (as you may have read, like, everywhere) is performed by Adele. There’s also the entire Death Grips record, thoroughly excellent new tracks from El Perro del Mar and Teeth & Tongue, Andre Williams keeping on keeping on, an Anita Baker-themed mixtape from THEESatisfaction, and a whole lot more. Since all this action costs precisely nothing, what are you waiting for? All the download links await after the jump.
Adele — “Skyfall” Adele makes perfect sense for a James Bond theme — much more than bloody Jack White or Chris Cornell, anyway — so it’s absolutely no surprise at all to find her providing the soundtrack for 007’s next adventure. This is a Bond song straight out of the ’60s — strings, brass, drama — and while we’re not entirely sure that it’s supposed to be downloadable, it’s on Stereogum as a Flash video file, so knock yourself out.
Death Grips — No Love Deep Web You may have heard about the drama around this, which may or may not be a clever publicity stunt — basically, Death Grips’ label pushed back the release date of this record, so the band leaked it themselves, and the label allegedly responded by pulling the official Death Grips site off the web. Whether or not the whole controversy is real or manufactured, you can get No Love Deep Web in its entirety via Soundcloud right now.
Teeth & Tongue — “The Party is You” We’ve always been advocates of prodigiously talented Australian singer Jess Cornelius, aka Teeth & Tongue — she played our SXSW party last year, don’t you know — and we’re loving her brassy new single. Get it in exchange for an email address here.
Andre Williams — “But’n” Frankly, if our libido is anywhere near as healthy at 76 as the evergreen and perma-randy Andre Williams, we’ll be very happy indeed. This is the latest single off his new album Life, and you can grab it via his Soundcloud page.
Ceremony — “Everything Burns” Bracing and pleasantly snotty old school punk from the Matador-signed Cali quintet, taken from a split 7″ with kindred spirits Titus Andronicus. This is up for free download to coincide with the tour that the two bands are embarking on together — you can get it right here. (You might need to right-click that link and hit “Save As…” to download.)
El Perro del Mar — “Walk On By” “Solitude’s my best friend,” sings Sarah Assbring on this prettily melancholy lead single from her new album Pale Fire. Assbring is a particularly fine exponent of the bittersweet pop that Sweden seems to do so well — cf. Jens Lekman, Frida Hyvönen, Taken by Trees, etc — and we’re definitely looking forward to the record. In the meantime, grab “Walk On By” here.
Darkstar — “Timeaway” Former Hyperdub stalwarts Darkstar are now signed to Warp, which means they’ve traversed both shining towers of cerebral UK electronica. This track is released on 12″ with a bunch of Plastikman-esque locked groove loops on the flipside, but you can grab it for free in return for an email address from the band’s website.
Oren Ambarchi and Robin Fox — “Standing Mandala” Anyway, enough with your bourgeois conceptions of “melody” and “song structure.” Here we findeth a collaboration between experimental maven Oren Ambarchi and bearded audio-visual performance artist Robin Fox. It’s a slow-building, filmic piece of atmospherics that’d fit ever so nicely on the soundtrack to a futuristic spy movie or something. Get it via The Fader.
Richard Hawley — “Standing at Sky’s Edge” Former Longpigs and Pulp dude Richard Hawley has been a solo artist for over a decade, and in that time he’s made a slew of excellent and largely overlooked records. Or overlooked on this side of the Atlantic, anyway — the album from which this track is taken hit #3 on the UK charts on its release in May, and it was pretty great. Happily, the title track is today’s KCRW Top Tune, and we advise you grab it forthwith — as ever with these KCRW tracks, it’s up for today only, so get downloading ASAP.
ThEESatisfaction — THEESatisfaction Loves Anita Baker mixtape And hey, what about this? A kinda EP mixtape from Flavorpill faves TheeSatisfaction based around how much they love Anita Baker. Get it via their Bandcamp.
