Awesome Photos of Writers Hanging Out Together

There’s something strangely inspiring about photographs of visionaries in the same room — we don’t know quite what it is, but the idea of (what we imagine to be) a profound meeting of minds captured on film always manages to get us excited. To that end, we put together a collection of some very excellent photographs of awesome musicians hanging out together a couple of months ago, but it’s not just musical types who like to gather in inspiring combinations. Writers, it seems, also enjoy each other’s company (whatever they might say to the contrary). Click through to see our photo roundup of writers hanging out with other writers, with a hat tip to the wonderful Tumblr Awesome People Hanging Out Together for inspiration and a few of the shots.

The picture of Papa and Fitz must have been before the boxing match where as referee, he let Papa get his clock cleaned by extending the rounds. They didn't speak much after that.

Sadly, the Hemingway/Fitzgerald picture is faked. The original version (without Fitz) can be seen in Carlos Baker's bio of Hemingway. Otherwise, great stuff. I had not seen the great majority of these.

2 writers playing the guitar: can't help wondering what they're playing... Stephen King is easy: it's got to be "Thriller" or "Another ones bites the dust". But Douglas Adams? "Space Oddity"? Great collection otherwise!

Really? No cool pictures of Neal Cassady hanging out with another writer?

Wow, that is a LOT of white dudes. Still, very enjoyable. Thanks.

2 favorites are Neil Gaiman and Douglas Adams, Vonnegut and Wolfe. The former because it captures Adams amazing penchant for awkward. That why I loved him and Arthur Dent particularly. The other photograph for being just such a pitch perfect representation of those two authors. They seem to actually wear their prose. Honorable mention goes to Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou. You can hear the words "Oh god, don't say anything stupid." radiate from her brain.

Wish I was there for that Hemingway and Fitzgerald meet-up.
