She’s the voice behind Fa Mulan in Disney’s Mulan series, she played Dr. Deb in medical drama ER for several seasons, and now she’ll be playing play Agent Melinda May for Joss Whedon. Ming-Na Wen will appear in Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. as an “ace pilot, a weapons expert, and a soldier who can — and has — gone beyond the call of duty,” according to Deadline. Her character was originally named Agent Althea Rice, aka The Calvary, but we think this moniker has a better ring to it. Ming-Na joins the previously announced Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson. This won’t be the actress’ first time in the realm of fantasy. She’s had appearances on Syfy’s Eureka and Stargate Universe. Also, let’s not forget her part as Chun-Li in the absolutely terrible Street Fighter — even though she’d probably like to pretend it never happened. Can you see the actress playing the “soulful and slightly damaged” combat expert? The ABC project still has another handful of roles to cast, so stay tuned here for more as we get it.
