Despite the pervasive assumption that Occupy Wall Street is defunct or irrelevant, in the weeks since Hurricane Sandy struck, the movement has mobilized countless volunteers to fill the gaps left by government agencies and larger humanitarian organizations. Now, in order to sustain its efforts, Occupy Sandy has announced a benefit concert that will take place this Saturday, November 17th, at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity church in Brooklyn Heights. Aside from providing urgently needed funds, the event features an indie-rock dream lineup that’s worth far more than the minimum $30 ticket donation: David Longstreth, Amber Coffman, and Haley Dekle of Dirty Projectors will join Vampire Weekend, Real Estate, Devendra Banhart, members of The Walkmen, Cass McCombs, and Hamilton Leithauser for a matinee show that will run from noon to five.
