Gorgeous, George R. R. Martin-Approved ‘Game of Thrones’ Maps

The Internet is crawling with fan-made maps inspired by the world of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series — in fact, we previously posted about an incredible zoomable one that we called “the only Game of Thrones map you’ll ever need.” Is it too late to take that back now? Because these detailed maps of the lands of Westeros and Essos illustrated by Jonathan Roberts for The Lands of Ice and Fire are too good not to share with you guys.

“The trick with a project of this size and complexity is organization,” Roberts writes over on Huffington Post. “The first order of business was to create a working draft of the full world from George R. R. Martin’s sketches… [He] had sketched the world on letter paper, with an HB pencil — and the sketches were the perfect reference. Each location was labeled in neat caps, different terrains were clearly indicated and the sheets all lined up. With the scans in hand, I built a patchwork quilt of the entire world in Photoshop, cleared it with Random House, and got to work.”

The end result? Twelve epic maps, each 2 feet by 3 feet, that encapsulate the entire world of A Song of Ice and Fire. Click through below to preview some of Roberts’ work, and pick up a copy of The Lands of Ice and Fire for a much better look.
