Could it be that we’ve discovered something that’s even more exploitative/grotesquely fascinating than Toddlers & Tiaras? The Guardian turned us on to the work of Florida animal photographer Ren Netherland, a man who shoots the dogs who compete at “creative grooming” shows. (It takes about two hours for groomers to prep each animal for showtime.) “The transformation they go through is simply spectacular,” he has said. “There’s no other word for it. It’s amazing what they can do in so little time.” More photos — including a poodle/panda after the jump.

And made to look like a completely different person?
I hope they get to run around and be animals after and don't EVER have to go through it again. However, it did make me laugh and I have a huge respect for animals.

art is may be subjective but i wouldn't call these pictures art. The photographer is probably doing what the clients ask for and the clients themselves are people with extra time and money on their hands. FRankly the pictures didn't earn a second glance from me. There ugly, the lighting is horrible, the background isn't nice, etc., et.c, Amateur
tattooing or any other sort of pain-inducing procedure is certainly cruel, but come on folks….we're just talking grooming here.
It's not art, it's sheer hilarity. Who wouldn't want a fancy bison hairdo?
As the guy above said, this is grooming, not cruelty. But I wouldn't call it "good" art. Look at William Wegman for more uncruel art and then… think about the guy in Mexico (don't remember his name) who left a stray dog tied up in a gallery with no food or water until it died. HE called that art… now there's a question.

This is just hilarious! In the argument of being ‘cruel, I don’t really see much difference in this and a poodle style groom.

This is NOT cruel. It is a haircut. Get a grip people.
It is, however, stupidity and a complete waste of time (in my opinion).
