If you’re in any way a fan of Ernest Hemingway, you’ve no doubt seen Yousef Karsh’s famous portrait of Papa avec beard and polo-necked sweater. You might not know, however, that the photo has given rise to an annual Hemingway lookalike competition. (According to PetaPixel, where we spotted these pictures, they also apparently compete in suitably manly pursuits like wrestling, fishing and drinking.) Anyway, photographer Henry Hargreaves — whose work we’ve featured several times in the past — has created a series called Becoming Hemingway, wherein contestants are issued with a replica sweater and do their best to reproduce the great man’s iconic pose. See the results after the jump.
