8 Amusingly Dated Vintage Drive-in Movie Theater Ads

Summer moviegoing has really lost a lot of its romance since the demise of the drive-in. Another thing it lost was a whole set of individually-tailored ads, some of which Internet Archive has thankfully preserved for us. The ads were mostly animated, but sometimes included a celebrity or two to punch things up and get people to go eat something at the snack bar, or come back for the special feature on Wednesday. We picked out some of the more amusingly arcane for you.

Young lovers take note!

Another “Welcome to the Drive-in” short which lets you know that even if you’re in a “housedress” you’re always welcome at the drive-in.

But you don’t need to go to the movies alone. As this ad advises, “bring a shut-in!”
