Religious Iconography Revamped

Mina Anton’s illustrations (spotted via Faith is Torment) have a very contemporary feel despite their subject matter. While depicting the kind of iconic religious imagery you might recognize from stained-glass church windows of Sunday School, Anton heightens the works with a modern-day twist. “I was very impressed with the contemporary modern art movement, which have the technical tools that allow you to fly away from the traditional art style. I also have been influenced by the culture of the old civilizations (Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Byzantine, Coptic, Islamic and other old culture),” Anton explains. “I have mixed all this together trying to create my own independent style.” Perhaps if the art in church had been this bad-ass, I would have been a lot less bored on Sunday mornings.
