“Lionel Stitchie” Street Art Project Has Us Laughing All Night Long

If you live in Milwaukee, you may have seen Molly Evans early one morning, around 5 AM, sneaking up on your neighborhood’s trash and transforming it into gallery-worthy art. The fiber-based artist’s series Lionel Stitchie takes some of R&B crooner Lionel Richie’s most iconic song lyrics and embroiders them onto discarded mattresses, couches, and recliners. Evans notes, “These bulky discards were the remains of university graduates moving on to new chapters, of families starting over with fresh styles, and of people letting go of emotional attachments to tired possessions. I identified with this process of reestablishment and sought to call attention to this important narrative in progress all around the city.” Maybe Evans will make your trash into art one day soon.
