The blogs have been abuzz with anticipation for Kids Go!, the newest endeavor from sweet indie rock standbys They Might Be Giants, and it seems that satisfaction has come sooner than expected. Kids Go! mysteriously became available on Amazon October 24th, though its release date was set for November 3. According to the TMBG wiki, the book was also shipped early to brick and mortar retailers, though the band offers no explanation. Oh well, we’re not complaining.
Kids Go!, TMBG’s second children’s book, comes packaged with a DVD and is super adorable. We were immediately sold by the stern notice on the back: “WARNING! This book is only for kids ready to move like a monkey. This book is only for kids ready to move like a jumping bean. This book is only for kids ready to go! go! GO!” That’s us! We’re ready to move like a jumping bean!
See an adorable excerpt from the DVD here. And if you’re feeling lucky, enter to win a copy of the book from the ever-generous Largehearted Boy. Or just see the band tomorrow at the Music Hall of Williamsburg with Charles Bissell of the Wrens and Nada Surf.

It's not so much a case of it being released early. Only a handful of books every week actually have strict on sale dates (usually the ones by the big name authors), meaning they can't be sold before that date. All of the other books that are released, for the most part, hit the shelves whenever stores receive them from the publisher or the distributor. Some books don't arrive until their release dates but stores regularly receive books anywhere from a few days to a few weeks before their release date and as long as there is no agreed SOS date, they hit the shelves immediately. Kids Go! falls into that category. Amazon got it early, therefore Amazon has it for sale early. BN.com has it on sale now too. It will probably start popping up in physical bookstores by the end of the week.
Hopefully, that helps clear up the mysterious early appearance.
