How To Open Your City

We spent the summer rewarding urban adventurers coast to coast with Heineken and our Routine Interruptions campaign. If you got a call from us, you already know how we hooked up the bold and inquisitive. But just because the summer and the campaign is winding down, doesn’t mean you can’t continue the journey on your own. Gleaned from a season spent exploring the unknown and relishing in it, here are some programs to keep an eye on to open your city.

Sofar Sounds

This is not your average concert. First of all, it’s invite only. Get on the list! Second, all the shows take place in stunning private residences. Third, the bands you’re seeing are all poised to make it big; you’re catching them right before they break, so you can confidently say “I saw them when…” Our advice to you: go beyond your usual suspect music venues and Top 40 playlists — what you discover will likely delight you.

Dinner Lab

Speaking of rising star talent, Dinner Lab celebrates up-and-comer chefs from around the US. Another invite-only situation (sign up now!), Dinner Lab hosts private suppers often starring unusual ingredients and themes. A recent meal was themed around the Louisiana swamplands and featured alligator. Opening your city also means opening your mind — and your mouth — to new ideas and flavors.

Keep On Movin’

This dance party (emphasis on the “dance” — you will indeed be kept moving!) pops up every Monday night in Nashville and once a month in Atlanta. Again, it’s not your normal club night. Celebrating the best of ’50s and ’60s rock and soul, the DJs spin retro hits and the crowd dresses the part. No bottle service, but if you play your cards right, you could score some mashed potato.

ThemFlavors

We love any company committed to pushing things forward. Chicago-based record label and events team ThemFlavors does just that with both its roster and its parties. When you’re looking for the latest from new musical talent — particularly dance music — this is who to check out. They’re also dedicated to bringing the best international DJs and artists through Chicago, expanding minds and eardrums, one party at a time.

Lights Down Low

Bringing the bleeding edge to the western edge of the country, Lights Down Low champions artists and partygoers who constantly ask “What’s next?” Alternating between venues in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Lights Down Low exposes party people to brand-new artists, plus some global heavy-hitters for good measure. The one constant? An awesome time. You may not know every name on the bill, but when you put your trust in tastemakers, you can be sure to leave impressed.

BangOn!

What other party in NYC boasts a full-size slip ‘n slide, daybreak pancake breakfast, and BBQ on top of incredible DJs, visuals, and party people? BangOn! encourages outrageous dancing and outlandish outfits — it’s almost like the Playa came to Brooklyn. Pyrotechnics, aerialists, artists, and live musicians compete for your attention and ensure that once you find the secret location, you won’t want to leave.

When in doubt, cross some borders. Take a chance. Dare yourself. Life is more exciting when you open your city!
