We’ve been excited about the Iggy and the Stooges reunion since rumors first started circulating earlier this year. And the good news just kept coming: The band, featuring original guitarist James Williamson (who replaced the late Ron Asheton when The Stooges became Iggy and the Stooges in the early ’70s), would play Raw Power in full at All Tomorrow’s Parties. They would embark upon an extensive tour. And, earlier this week, we learned that Iggy even plans to have the band record some vintage tracks that never made it to the studio.
But, as with any all-star rock reunion, we had to wonder whether it would live up to the hype. Thankfully, some kind folks in Brazil have given us a little preview. Although Iggy and the Stooges’ tour won’t officially begin until 2010, the band played its first gig in decades Saturday night in São Paulo. Now, YouTube is burning up with clips — including a “Lust for Life” encore, which 62-year-old Iggy performs with his bare ass hanging out. It certainly looks like the band killed.
