When we first heard that Steve Carell and Tina Fey were starring together in Date Night, we imagined something akin to a very special NBC Thursday wherein Michael Scott and Liz Lemon happened to show up in each other’s respective fictional worlds. Maybe Michael was in the audience for a taping of TGS with Tracy Jordan and wandered backstage, or Liz was scouting new comedic talent in Scranton. Who knows.

What we didn’t expect was a movie about a kind of bored married couple who steal a dinner reservation belonging to a rather dirty looking James Franco and Mila Kunis. As a result, they end up on the bad side of some serious gangsters and must turn to a shirtless Mark Wahlberg for help. Bad jokes ensue.

Date Night hits theaters on April 9, 2010. Are we being too hard on it?
