Flavorwire Premiere: Little Cloud Transforms Seoul’s “The Line” Into a Warped Wall of Sound

“‘Remix’ has become synonymous with dance-floor re-jack — a beautiful thing in its own right, no doubt! — but remixes can also more literally involve simply re-adjusting the levels of certain sounds in a track to create something new,” Montreal trio Seoul writes to us, collectively. “We’re definitely interested in remixes that isolate a specific aspect of a song and amplify its importance by actually just clearing room for it to shine as opposed to hyping it up by adding more elements to it.”

Such is the case with little cloud’s remix of “The Line,” a low-key synth banger and standout track from Seoul’s recently released debut, I Become a Shade, an eclectic collection of post-chillwave dream-pop to get lost in. The London-bred, Stockholm-based producer made “The Line” feel like it was moving in slow motion, underwater, crying out for help across a sea of vocal parts.

“We were interested in little cloud’s tendency to push audio really far,” the band says. “Her tracks aren’t afraid to work with blown-out sounds and digital artifacts, which is interesting to us right now, and super relevant vis-a-vis our omnivorous YouTube-centric listening habits these days.”

Flavorwire is pleased to premiere little cloud’s remix of Seoul’s “The Line,” as well as announce the band’s fall tour.
