FKA twigs Releases New EP, ‘M3LL155X,’ Accompanied by a 16-Minute, Four-Part Music Video

Well, this is FKA big: yesterday, FKA twigs released the new EP she’d recently been talking about. While her first two big releases, LP1 and EP1, bore their austerely simple titles, her new EP — which is co-produced with BOOTS and tic — comes similarly devoid of suggestive emotion, but will be far harder for anyone to remember: it’s called M3LL155X. It’s accompanied by a self-directed music video connecting four of the EP’s five tracks but made as one 16-minute piece. The cover art, pictured above, is by Matthew Stone, who’d formerly worked with twigs on his interdisciplinary work, “Everything Is Possible.”

M3LL155X begins with “Figure 8,” which she previously shared and discussed with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe as being based on the emphasis of eternity in voguing. The video also comprises twigs’ Youtube Awards clip for “Glass & Patron,” and includes a cameo by model Michèle Lamy. According to a statement accompanying its release, it is “an aggressive statement conceptualising the process of feeling pregnant with pain, birthing creativity and liberation.”
