‘Fresh Off the Boat’s’ Second Season Isn’t Narrated by Eddie Huang

In unfortunate but perhaps unsurprising news, Vulture reports that Eddie Huang will no longer be narrating new episodes of the Fresh off the Boat.

The series was adapted from Huang’s memoir of the same name, but the chef/restaurateur and author has had a contentious relationship with ABC and what he feels is a whitewashing of his story for general “sitcom”-consumption. He continued contributing voiceovers for most of the episodes in Season 1, but his voice (literal and figurative) gradually grew silent as the series progressed — and exceedingly deviated from the source material.

In the Season 2 premiere, there will be a voiceover element, but it will be courtesy of the youngest son Evan (played by Ian Chen); his narration is only a plot device for the episode, and will not continue throughout the series.

Season 2 premieres tonight on ABC, 8:30PM (EST).
