Sia’s upcoming album This Is Acting, for which she’s yet to announce a release date, has a thoroughly Sia-esque concept: it’s made up entirely of songs written for other singers.
It’s a neat reversal: a pop star who consistently lets other people’s faces—say, Lena Dunham’s—substitute for her own, substituting her own voice for other people’s. And, of course, it leads to stellar songs like “Alive.”
Originally written by Adele and Tobias Jesso Jr., “Alive” is the first track off an album that, according to an interview with Beats1’s Zane Lowe, will also feature songs written for Beyoncé and Rihanna. In addition to This Is Acting, she’s also got a collaboration with FKA twigs and even a song she wrote for Adele in the works.
