Gorgeous Illustrations From Children’s Books With Grown-up Appeal

This fall, Penguin Books has put out two books that combine the kind of storytelling that kids love with the design-oriented illustration that is all the rage among adults. And they’re both connected to the iconography of the publisher itself.

The Journey of the Penguin , by Emiliano Ponzi, tells the story of a penguin who travels to London from Antarctica and eventually becomes the mascot of a publishing house. The tale is told through striking images and without words. The Fox and the Star, a new fable with old-fashioned illustrations, arrives this week from Coralie Bickford-Smith, who designed the new Penguin Hardcover Classics.
