New in this week’s edition of cult films being rebooted for the next generation, Variety reports that Fox has ordered a pilot to bring back The Exorcist as a dramatic, modern series. The 1973 horror film, based on a book by William Peter Blatty — who wrote the screenplay and produced the movie — centered on the demonic possession of a young girl (played by a young Linda Blair).
“The one-hour drama pilot is described as a modern reinvention inspired by Blatty’s book — a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession, and confronting the face of true evil,” writes Variety. The Lazarus Effect and Fantastic Four writer Jeremy Slater will pen the script and co-produce the project.
What makes it modern has yet to be reported, but we assume that means they’ll veto the vommy green pea soup FX.
