Compton residents rapped the opening verse of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” in a new promo for the 2016 Grammys released Monday.
The video jumps to men, women, and children in Lamar’s hometown as they perform the song, which has been nominated for “best song of the year.” Lamar arrives and walks into a crowd performing.
“Wherever great begins, it ends up here,” the promo proclaims.
Lamar is this year’s Grammy frontman in many ways. Though LL Cool J will host the show next month, Lamar will perform at the ceremony and has received 11 nominations — more than any other artist — including Best Album and the aforementioned Song of the Year.
The 58th annual Grammy Awards will be held in Los Angeles February 15 and air live on CBS.
