The realistic portraits of strangers on a European metro have a voyeuristic perspective, each subject unaware they’re being studied as they study others. Boersma’s paintings bring to mind those fleeting moments you share with a fellow passenger on the train, imagining what their life and world are like based on the book they’re carrying, the packages in their lap, and the expression on their face.
