Writer, actress, and video blogger Franchesca Ramsey has joined Larry Wilmore’s The Nightly Show cast and writing team, Comedy Central announced Monday. Prior to this new post at The Nightly Show, Ramsey was probably best known as the host of MTV: Decoded, a comedy web series about race and social issues in pop culture.
“We’re very excited to have Franchesca and her tremendous skill set join the show,” said host and executive producer Larry Wilmore. “We were just going to hire her skill set, but we agreed to hire her as well. So it’s a win-win.”
Ramsey is no newcomer to the comedy world. She’s appeared in guest spots on Broad City and Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. She even appeared as a panelist on The Nightly Show just last month to speak about Bill Cosby’s arrest and the militia standoff at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. Most recently, she made headlines when she posted a video to her Tumblr page discussing an encounter she had with Jill Soloway, who seemed to be completely oblivious to her own ignorance regarding the concept of intersectionality. So, needless to say, Ramsey is a most solid addition to The Nightly Show‘s team.
Ramsey will make her first appearance on The Nightly Show on this week, on Tuesday, February 2.
