Time to get that Putty Patrol in motion, Goldar, because Rita Repulsa has risen from her 10,000-year space dumpster slumber. It’s just been announced that the Power Rangers villain will be portrayed by Elizabeth Banks in the upcoming film reboot.
Banks joins a bunch of fresh-faced folks who have been cast in the roles of the titular Rangers: Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, and R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger.
The film, which is being produced by Lionsgate, is set to be released March 24, 2017. It will purportedly “reimagine” the “origins” of the teenage Power Rangers, hopefully not completely ruining the cheesy beauty of the original series, which American children of the ’90s enjoyed in all its over-dubbed glory.
Watch one of the first scenes of the series below, in which Rita Repulsa is awoken by two ignorant scientists, plunging Earth and all of its human beings into horrific warfare between space aliens and high schoolers.
