Vin Diesel Confirms: ‘Fast and Furious’ Franchise Will Ride Off into the Sunset in 2021

The Fast and The Furious films are incredibly popular, but Vin Diesel knows that nothing lasts forever. On Wednesday, the franchise figurehead revealed via Instagram that the series will end after an upcoming trio of films. The message also contains the release dates for ninth and tenth films: April 19, 2019, and April 2, 2021, respectively.

Director F. Gary Gray revealed the April, 2017 release date for the next film in the series — it was supposed to be Furious 8 for a while, but is now Fast 8 — in an October, 2015 tweet. In addition to members of the recurring cast, including Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and The Rock — Furious 7 stars Jason Statham and Kurt Russell are “expected” to return in the next film, according to The AV Club.

Long story, short: there will be another five years of Fast and Furious films. If that upsets you, take solace in the fact that the series won’t be generated ad infinitum the way Marvel and Star Wars will be.
