Coldplay who? Just before Beyoncé joins the band, and Bruno Mars, for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show tomorrow, she drops a new single on Tidal called “Formation” (available to download for free). The video for “Formation” is directed by Melina Matsoukas and references the #BlackLivesMatter movement (look for the wall tagged with “Stop Shooting Us”), her southern roots (mom Tina is of Louisiana Creole descent), and more. Bounce music icon Big Freedia and Bey’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter make cameo appearances. The line “I got hot sauce in my bag” is already one of many quotables from the track that are now available plastered on assorted stuff, available for purchase in her store. Rolling Stone writes that the singer was reportedly rehearsing “Formation” for the halftime show, but there’s still no confirmation if she’ll debut it live on Sunday.
