Listen to St. Vincent’s Electrified Cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Emotional Rescue”

St. Vincent has just released a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Emotional Rescue,” which will be featured in the anticipated Luca Guadagnino film A Bigger Splash, in which Tilda Swinton plays a vacationing, glammy rockstar.

The song captures what the seeming sultry, festive vibe of the film — which looks to give way to a fervor that causes some undisclosed catastrophe among the central group of vacationers. Though St. Vincent makes tiny nods to the original song’s instrumentation — a muffled saxophone in the background, layered vocal filters — she mostly pulls the Rolling Stones into her own sonic world of spurting guitar and robotically restrained percussion. This cover is zesty as hell.

The plot of the film itself follows Swinton’s character as she basks in the luxury of a Mediterranean resort, enjoying the company of her filmmaker boyfriend (Matthias Schoenaerts), until suddenly an ex-lover (Ralph Fiennes) appears with his daughter (Dakota Johnson), catalyzing what looks like a developing love triangle, or love square, or love swap, or love-other-shape — leading to…whatever event merits the sense of foreboding the trailer builds.
