‘Transparent’ Creator Jill Soloway Making ‘I Love Dick’ Comedy Pilot for Amazon

Jill Soloway, Six Feet Under vet and creator of Amazon’s transcendent, award-winning series Transparent, is creating a pilot for a potential new comedy on the streaming service. And it’s called I Love Dick.

The pilot — and show, should it come to pass — is based on the feminist classic book of the same name, written by writer/publisher Chris Kraus. The 1997 book is centered on a Marfa, Texas couple who falls in love with a theorist named Dick — believed to be based on real-life theorist Richard “Dick” Hebdige — starting a pretend love-affair with him through letters. Oh, it will also be told in “Rashomon-style shifts of POV.”

Emily Gould, who last year wrote glowingly of Love Dick in The Guardian, has inadvertently started a thread on Twitter that proves that the adaptation of this book into a TV show could prove to be contentious.

No word on when the pilot will appear online, but it’s definitely going to be scrutinized. But then, so is everything these days?
