Produced by YA publisher Imprint, the pair of books will cover formative events for 17-year-old Mulder and 15-year-old Scully during the summer of 1979. While each stars in their own story, the events of the book will set Mulder and Scully “on the path to becoming FBI agents,” according to Entertainment Weekly .

Mulder’s story, Agent of Chaos, will be written by Beautiful Creatures co-author Kami Garcia. Devil’s Advocate, which follows Scully, will be handled by Bram Stoker-award winning horror novelist Jonathan Maberry.

“As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me,” said Imprint publisher Erin Stein. “Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.”

Both X-Files Origins books will be available in January 2017.
