Robert Eggers seems to have a fascination with the occult. As if it weren’t made clear with the release of his debut feature The Witch, Eggers is in talks to write and direct a miniseries about Grigori Rasputin, the Russian mystic and subject of much legend.
Deadline reports that Eggers and his team are in talks with Media Rights Capital — the folks behind Ted 2, Furious 7, and House of Cars — to produce six to eight episodes of a television series that tells the complete life story of Rasputin, though it wouldn’t be surprising if it didn’t remain entirely factual, as the legends surrounding the man are almost certainly untrue, but also certainly entertaining.
Will Eggers focus on Rasputin’s sexual fervor, and the way his potency encouraged increased production of milk in cows when he happened to be around them? Or will he focus more on his interactions with royalty, whom he assisted as a faith healer and mystic? Who knows. But it will probably have very exact period detail and a lot of drab colors to make clear the red of flowing blood, if The Witch is any indication.
