Throughout your life — in which you have or have not endured menstrual cramps — you likely never thought that someday, it’d be Whoopi Goldberg who’d help you eradicate said cramps — which you may or may not have endured — through a few handy assortment of marijuana-based products. So this news may or may not change your life.
Vanity Fair reports that the Oscar winning actress and The View co-host has teamed up with Om Edibles owner Maya Elisabeth to release weed-based products — under the name Maya & Whoopi — that work specifically to ease menstrual cramps. (Om Edibles is, per their website, an “all-female run collective dedicated to providing the highest quality of Medical Cannabis products to legal patients in California”.)
The array of products include topical rubs, tinctures, edibles and a bath soak, and Goldberg says that one of the key upsides to them is that they allow you to not get completely stoned to enjoy the cramp-reducing effects of marijuana. (Though not getting completely stoned can arguably also be seen as a downside.)
“Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work,” Goldberg told Vanity Fair. She notes how some of the products — like the rub — are designed to be used at work.
Before she’d found Elisabeth she’d contacted a few other potential partners in (legal in California!) crime. They’d told her that her idea to tailor it specifically to help menstrual cramps was “too niche.” Her response: “Hey, this niche is half the population on the earth.”
As VF notes, news of Goldberg’s medicinal weed appreciation isn’t really news at all: she’s praised her vape pen in the past, in an article in the Cannibist called “My vape pen and I, a love story.” There, she wrote:
When I show her to a friend, the reaction 99 percent of the time is: “Holy shit, where did you get this and how can I get me one?” They’re seriously that blown away by my vape pen. And they should be. She’s that amazing.
Goldberg’s new line will be available in April strictly in California.
